To backup your BFTP Client, we would suggest first backing up your Site Manager so that all your FTP server credentials (logins, passwords, etc.) are maintained.

Back Up Your Bookmarks

The storage location for BulletProof FTP Client 2009 is stored by Windows under the private location for the user-name that you use to login to Windows. This is a little bit more complicated than previous methods, but provides a level of security which is consistent with Microsoft standards. In order to locate the directory, you will need to remember the login-name you use for windows and replace the "YOURUSERNAME" below with that login-name:

Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\YOURUSERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\BulletProof Software\BulletProof FTP Client 2009\Sites

Windows Vista/Seven
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\BulletProof Software\BulletProof FTP Client 2009\Sites

Older Version Locations (Any Windows Version)

  • Version 2.6: C:\Program Files\BulletProof FTP Client v2.6\Sites\
  • Version 2.5: C:\Program Files\BulletProof FTP Client v2.5\Sites\
  • Version 2.x/1.x: C:\Program Files\BPFTP\Sites\

Backup Session Files

Next, backup any *.BPS files stored in the BPFTP folder.

  • Version 2009: C:\Program Files\BulletProof Client 2009\
  • Version 2.6: C:\Program Files\BulletProof FTP Client v2.6\
  • Version 2.5: C:\Program Files\BulletProof FTP Client v2.5\
  • Version 2.x/1.x: C:\Program Files\BPFTP\

After backing up these files, you will be able to copy them back into the correct locations once you reinstall.

Backup Registration Code

Lastly, you'll want to back-up your registration code using the Windows Registry Editor:

  • Start -> Run -> "regedit.exe" <enter>
  • Double-Click into "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software"
  • Right-Click on the folder that says "BPFTP" and select "Export"
  • Enter a name for the file that you want to contain the exported registry key
  • Take this file to the new computer using a network share, floppy, cdrom, usb stick
  • Double-Click on the exported file on the new computer
  • This will prompt a warning asking you to be "... are you sure you want to import?"

The registry information will now be on the new computer and the trial version will automatically see this and turn itself into the full-version!
