Program Is Flagged As a Virus
From BulletProof Wiki
Firewall softwares such as Norton internet security, Windows Firewall(ICF), TrendMicro PC-Cillin and are usually installed on many people's operating system, they can protect Your PC from internet hackers, but can also interfere with Server softwares.
For the past several years we have been compressing our program executables in an effort to keep download and execution performance at it's peak.
Unfortunately, virus makers have started to also compress their executables in an effort to hide their virus signatures. In response Anti-Virus companies have changed their software to flag *any* executable that is compressed, regardless of it's contents. Obviously this is a ridiculous method of protecting against viruses, as it flags any program that compresses it's executable data as a *potential* virus.
In the next version our top priority is to remove this compression. For now, we would recommend that you tell your Anti-Virus software to ignore the the installation directory for BulletProof FTP Server/Client.
To run BPFTP sever properly with a Firewall software, you still may have to configure the firewall properly. You can attempt to configure your software by adding a rule to allow the FTP transfer to take place.
First open the following ports on Your NAT/router for bi-directions (in and out) TCP connections: 1. server port 2. data ports (a range of ports)
Then configure your security software. For an example we will walk through Norton Antivirus 2007 Internet Security:
- In settings->internet worm protection, turn on and configure the general rules.
- Set the rule to use 'to and from' (bi-directional) and allow it to come from 'any computer'
- Then select TCP and it to the first rule
- Select individual specified ports and enter 21
- Select TCP again and Add a Select Port range
